“We come into this world with nothing,
and we leave it the same way…
And it doesn’t matter what you’ve done,
what great works you’ve accomplished…
The dreams you had -
How many monuments you’ve built to yourself…”

Amid the drama onstage,
Edifice is a microcosm of the world
outside the auditorium doors…

A world of judgment, skepticism and ridicule.
But a closer look reveals that the very same
power struggles that dominate the secular
realm are sadly mirrored in every church
office and congregation.

Edifice boldly dramatizes
those two worlds in collision…

The boardroom maneuvers within the
power-hungry Morrison Corporation
are uncomfortably synonymous to those
within the Christian ministry office
run by David Morrison.

When David accepts his father’s offer
to relocate his urban mission work
into a prestigious executive tower,
he learns that deception and betrayal
are the most universal of human failures.

In Edifice — as in the real world -
personal schemes and agendas abound,
however noble or vile.
But in one moment of disaster,
the contrivances of all are superseded
by a greater purpose.

“None are righteous, no, not one.”

Edifice illustrates the struggle to be
salt and light in a dark, bitter world,
when our own testimony is burdened
by a lifetime of hypocrisy.

As the characters of Edifice struggle to survive,
the deeper struggles of their hearts are exposed,
and true salvation is revealed to exist only
in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

“Jesus Christ came to this world
and paid the price for all our vain towers…
Let go of the pain…
All of the guilt, the pride,
your bitterness…
It’s not too late to admit the past…
Ask Jesus to build you a new tower…
The only kind that will ever last…”

A performance of Edifice
is a stirring, powerful reminder
that we are not in control of this world;
that God is sovereign over all things;
and that the burden of saving
those we love is not our cross to bear.

With biblical truth embedded
at the very heart of its story, a performance
of mereBreath Drama’s Edifice can serve
as a valuable tool for community outreach,
attracting those who ordinarily might not
attend a church service or listen to a sermon.

With its multiple themes of pride, fall,
conviction, surrender, redemption, loyalty,
and deliverance, Edifice serves as a remarkable
illustration of God’s grace at work in the hearts
of men and women regardless of circumstance.

“There’s no more time -
No more tomorrows…
There’s only here and now -
This moment on the edge of eternity -
and Jesus Christ waiting to forgive
the sins of a lifetime
if you’ll only ask him…”
